Touching
Spirit Bear
by Ben Mikaelsen
|
Cole Matthews has been fighting and stealing for years. Cole's
recent crime is smashing Peter Driscal's skull into the sidewalk.
Cole will have to choose between Circle Justice or prison! Cole
chose Circle Justice and is on a Southeast Alaskan island for
one year. Cole decides to go to the island. When Cole messes
with a white bear called the Spirit Bear, Cole gets mauled.
One week later, Cole is taken back to the Circle Justice. They
decide for Cole to go back with Peter. In the end, Cole and
Peter go to the pond alone and Peter does not give Cole another
chance. After Peter beats Cole up they build a totem pole and
forgive each other!

This book was entertaining. At the beginning of the story, Cole
beats up a kid named Peter so hard that after he was never the
same. Cole gets to choose between jail or an Indian program
called "The Circle Justice". Cole chooses the Circle
Justice because he thought it would be better than jail. On
the island he learns many things about himself. I thought the
story was unique because it was very descriptive and it was
easy to picture in my head.
