"At the top of the Pyramid there are the innovators. The
first kid to keep her wallet on a big chunky chain. The first
to wear way-too-long pants on purpose. To wash jeans in acid,
stick a safety pin in something, or wear a hooded sweatshirt
inside a leather jacket. The mythical first guy who wore his
baseball cap backwards." A quote taken from So Yesterday,
a novel by Scott Westerfeld.
Hunter Braque is a 17 year-old, living in New York City and
sitting comfortably on his job as a trendsetter. He was just
fine with the "cool pyramid." It is what holds fads
together after all. His job was great and he was fine with it,
that is until he met Jen. All Hunter wanted was a picture of
her shoes, but what he got was the mysterious disappearance
of his boss, purple hair-dying shampoo, a glimpse of the coolest
shoes ever, and the realization that the Pyramid might not be
perfect. This is a one of a kind story that makes the teen reader
think about why they wearing ripped jeans and brand name clothes.
The characters are great portrayal of teens who need to be cool
and need acceptance. This is the type of book that will spread
like wildfire among friends and leaves the reader thinking.
Is the mortar that holds down trends being pulled loose? But
just remember, "Someone has to guide you, to mold you,
to make sure that today turns into yesterday on schedule."
(A quote from So Yesterday).
