The images in this database have been scanned from a series of postcards produced in St. Charles, Missouri. Most of the photographs seem to have been taken during the first two decades of the Twentieth Century .Some can be attributed directly to local photographer R. Goebel.
A 1916 publication of the Chamber of Commerce of St. Charles includes many of the same photographs. It is entitled "Progressive St. Charles 1916" and was published by Thomas J. Campbell, Art Printing, 121 Jefferson Street, St. Charles. An advertisement in the publication indicates that Campbell produced "illustrated post cards" as well as advertising, stationary, invitations and visiting cards.
