This is a reprint of Beckwourth's original autobiography published in 1856. A partly fictionalized account, filled with tall tales as well as fact, it was written by Thomas D. Bonner from notes dictated to him by Beckwourth.

Written for children, this biography traces Beckwourth's life from his birthplace in Virginia, to his family's move west where they settled on land between the fork of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, twelve miles from St. Charles, MO. Beckwourth was to become a trapper, famous mountain man and even a Crow chief before his retirement and death in Colorado.
