SUMMARY:
Responsible for coordinating District wide strategic planning providing administrative
support in fulfilling the goals and objectives as established by the Library Director and
the Library Board of Trustees. Also, responsible for establishing and managing the Library
Foundation for fund raising; directing all fund raising activities for the District
including developing volunteer sources; managing the library gift shop; coordinating fund
raising activities for the Friends of the Library. May develop and coordinate appropriate
grants for the Library District, as directed. Works cooperatively, as needed, with staff
and community representatives to achieve goals. Supervision received is administrative,
with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Works cooperatively with staff and community representatives to form library goals,
objectives, mission statement, policies and procedures.
Coordinates the periodic planning process for libraries, including those developed by
the Public Library Association.
Develops quantitative and qualitative procedures for measuring District goals,
objectives and service responses including statewide standard for public libraries.
Establishes, manages, and directs the Library Foundation for fund raising, including
work with deferred gifts, endowment development, and membership programs, preparing
necessary reports and financial information as required bor non-profit foundations.
Designs strategies to identify, investigate, and implement programs which will generate
revenue for the Library District, including sponsorships, cash donations, and special
events.
Develops research data for use in fund raising activities, and for District decision
making.
Coordinates Friends of the Library fund raising activities, such as the book fair and
the gift shop, including multiple accounting functions, invoice reconciliation, and
financial reports.
Oversees the development and maintenance of the volunteer program in conjunction with
the Volunteer Resources and Staff Training Specialist.
Identifies grant sources, and prepares grants as needed for additional funding.
Represents the Library District and the Foundation to community organizations, business
leaders, government officials and media.
Creates procedures and policies for planning and development activities.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
May serve on committees or teams within or outside the District in the area of
expertise.
Provides training to staff on planning and development issues and programs.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Personal computer, printer, copier, calculator, cash management system, fax,
automated phone system and other computer or business equipment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be able to work independently, have excellent verbal and written communication
skills, have three years experience in planning and development work, including
fund raising, and have knowledge of library operations. Must have BA/BS degree in a
related field; prefer master's degree in Non-Profit Management, Public Policy or a related
field.
