SECTION E - PersonnelPolicy Number E032.320Classification Specification - Catalog Technician
Report to: Manager of Technical Operations Salary Track: D Rate: SUMMARY: Performs various cataloging and data entry
functions in Technical Operations to maintain the Library District’s
catalog database. Enters records for new materials in the catalog database
using bibliographic utilities and other proprietary software available.
Creates, edits, transfers, and/or links bibliographic records in the
database and inputs local data, as needed. Assigns and/or checks for
appropriate classification numbers, series, subject headings, and
location codes. Generates labels for physical processing of
materials. Works independently, receiving minimal detailed supervision
and guidance. Complex questions are referred to the Manager of Technical
Operations or Catalog Manager, as appropriate. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Must be able to
operate personal computer including email, Internet connections and software
related to cataloging database; printers; copier; fax machine, and telephone
system. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: BS/BA degree in a compatible field and one (1) year library or other related experience. Must be accurate, have high attention to detail, and have knowledge of public library's function and purpose. Prefer knowledge of library catalog databases. OR: Two years of library experience at
the library assistant level may be substituted for each year of college (30
credit hours = 1 year of college). For example, an applicant may have
3 years of college and 2 years as a library assistant; or 2 years of college
and 4 years as a library assistant, etc. Must successfully complete the District's
Catalog Technician Training within one year of employment as a Catalog
Technician. At the discretion of the Director or Deputy Director, some
or all of the training classes may be waived based on prior library course
