SUMMARY:
Perform a variety of general duties including public service duties in the circulation
area and in outreach services, delivery services of branch and outreach materials,
repairs, light maintenance and cleaning projects, and special security duties within the
branch. Assist in the general operations of the library branch, as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Interact with customers in the library and by telephone concerning materials in
circulation, reserves, and overdues, and accept reservations for children's and adult
programs.
- Perform clerical duties including issuing library cards, file materials, collect fines
and fees, balance cash drawer, sort mail, and empty and sort materials from the book drop.
- Provide routine maintenance support for interior and exterior projects, including
changing light bulbs; replacing furnace filters; hanging bulletin boards, pictures, or
signs; repairing damaged walls; and assorted interior painting, as needed.
- Delivery of materials to customers who are isolated because of geographic, physical or
circumstantial reasons, to daycares, and to other locations as directed.
- Perform routine security duties in the branch including intervening with difficult
customers, working with the branch security system, and opening and closing of the branch
when needed.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Occasional clerical duties related to circulation activities or branch programs, such as
special reports or voter registration.
- Assist customers with the operation of library equipment and the use of facilities.
- Assist with special cleaning projects, including lawn care and snow removal, as needed.
- Perform special projects in clerical, delivery, security, cleaning ,or maintenance
areas, as needed for branch operations.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Must be able to operate library equipment including automated circulation system,
copiers, telephone, fax, and other equipment necessary to the operation of the branch. Be
able to use basic maintenance tools and be able to drive a delivery van.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires strong verbal and written communication skills, 1 year of customer or public
service experience, and knowledge of the procedures of public libraries. Must have a high
school diploma or GED, prefer completion of 2-4 years of college. Must have an excellent
driving record, hold a current Missouri driver's license, have "handy person"
skills, and be able to physically lift and carry heavy boxes of materials weighing up to
50 pounds.
