SUMMARY:
Performs routine manual and clerical work necessary for daily library operations.
Insures that materials are shelved correctly for customer use. Receives specific direction
regarding all aspects of the job and carries out basic tasks with a minimum of
supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Sensitizes and shelves materials alphabetically and numerically.
- Performs shelf reading, dust and dress shelves.
- Packs and unpacks boxes of materials.
- Checks the library inside and outside, removing litter and cleaning as needed.
- Inspects, cleans, mends, and covers library materials.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with preparation of program materials and programming areas.
- Applies bar codes, labels and security strips as needed.
- Assists with clerical duties including light keyboarding, copying and filing.
- Removes library materials from book drop.
- Search shelves for "claims return" items.
- Performs general cleaning including dusting, cleaning windows, and picking up litter
from the premise.
- Assists with closing procedures such as securing the building, turning off machines and
lights, and straightening chairs and table.
- May perform other projects as needed.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
Book cart, sensitizer, copier, telephone and personal computer/typewtier.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be at least 16 years old, have good reading skills, be able to file alphabetically
and numerically, and be accurate in repetitive tasks. Light keyboarding skills, good
telephone and customer service manners preferred.
Also prefer library experience, public service experience and knowledge of the Dewey
decimal system.
