ADULT COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY

SUBJECT: THE ARTS -- 700

Description: Books and other library materials relating to all the arts as set out by the Dewey Decimal Classification system. These include art, music, photography, handicrafts, and sports.

Influencing factors: In-depth art and music collections are available in many metropolitan area colleges and universities. The decorative arts, including handicrafts, needlework, and antiques books, are much in demand locally and will be collected extensively.

The popularity of a certain sport may wax and wane, depending on the local population, and will be collected as necessary.

Retention: Retrospective retention of major works in art and music is necessary. Condition of the material and current usage will determine the retention of most popular materials.

Current selection: Comprehensive subject coverage at a basic level for the general patron will be the primary consideration.

Retrospective selection: Retrospective development will include checking current subject bibliographies as available, particularly for the replacement of missing or worn titles.
