ADULT COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY

SUBJECT: RELIGION -- 200

Description: Books and other materials related to religion as set forth in the Dewey Decimal Classification system.

Influencing Factors: Collection beyond basic popular coverage in this area is the realm of college and university collections, particularly theological, seminary, and church libraries. The collection will include basic coverage of all major religions. Bible reference works and comparative religion reference works will be collected in sufficient quantity to meet demand. Due to the diversity of viewpoints in the subject area, informational materials will be acquired to provide a balanced collection on controversial issues.

Retention: Retrospective retention of basic reference and circulation material is necessary, with attention given to maintaining currency. Usage and condition of materials will determine retention of popular materials.

Current selection: Comprehensive subject coverage at a basic level for the general patron shall be given primary consideration.

Retrospective selection: This will include checking of current subject bibliographies as available. Attention will also be given to replacement of missing or worn titles as necessary, depending on availability.
