INTERLIBRARY LOAN

St. Charles City-County Library District participates in the interlibrary loan network which allows libraries to supplement their collections by borrowing materials from and/or loaning materials to other library systems.
The District’s policies are governed by the National Interlibrary Loan Code, Policy # C192.15 as specified
above. Each library participating in the Interlibrary Loan program is allowed to develop guidelines governing the use of their own ILL system. The following code has been developed for the St. Charles City-County Library District.
BORROWING
NEW BOOKS
The district will consider purchase of requested items published within the last six months. However, if the item is readily available from St. Louis County Library, an attempt will be made to borrow the item while a purchase decision is being made.
TEXTBOOKS
Requests for textbooks will be made when the information is only available in a textbook format.
PERIODICALS
Requests for specific articles not readily available in any format in the district will be considered. The patron must agree to cover copying costs.
GENEALOGIES
ILL requests for genealogical materials may include books, photocopies, and microfilm. Genealogies and genealogical books may be requested on ILL if circulating copies are available. Photocopies of specific pages from non-circulating books may be requested as well as microfilm not available in the district. Fees charged by the lending library are passed on to the patron.
PAPERBACKS
The district does not request paperback books which cost under $5.00 unless they are out of print.
JUVENILE AND YOUNG ADULT MATERIALS
Juvenile and young adult materials will be considered under the same guidelines as adult items. However, interlibrary loan services will be restricted to cardholders 18 years of age and older.
Restrictions and Limitations
Interlibrary loan due dates are specific for each transaction and restrictions are determined by the lending library. Materials may not be renewed.
.
There is a fine of $2.00 per day per item for overdue items, based on policy #C128.
An individual patron may only request an item twice. When repeated requests are made for a specific item, the district will consider it
for purchase, based on the collection development policy, #D040. The district will accept only three title requests per individual at one time. Patrons will be responsible for any charges made by the lending library for ILL items. ILL privileges may be suspended if the patron fails to pick up a requested item, returns an item late, or loses an item. See Policy # C192.05 Students of local educational institutions must exhaust the resources of their respective institutions, not the public library, to serve their needs with ILL. Reciprocal cardholders must use their own public library for interlibrary loan services.
The District will provide ILL services for non-resident cardholders.
The district will not accept subject requests; specific titles must be requested.
LENDING
SCCCLD will lend materials to other libraries under the same conditions and terms as borrowed. However, the following materials will not be loaned:
 |
Microfilm and microfiche |
 |
Reference items |
 |
Non-print materials |
 |
