
Overtime Compensation
Overtime will be requested for an employee only when the work cannot be completed in a normal workweek. An employee has the option to refuse overtime except in the case of an emergency situation.
In compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime compensation shall be paid to employees classified as non-exempt. Overtime compensation will be paid for those hours worked over 40 in a 7-day workweek. The Library District has established the workweek as Sunday through Saturday.
If an employee is exempt from the FLSA mandated overtime compensation in not required. Exempt employees generally fall into three categories: executive, administrative, and professional.
